TANZANIA MISSION TO THE POOR AND DISABLED (PADI)

Tanzania Mission to the Poor and Disabled (PADI) is a NGO that works to improve the lives and social welfare of the poor, disabled and older people in Tanzania.

PADI works on HIV and AIDS projects. These include working with communities to make them aware of the needs of vulnerable older people regarding prevention and treatment of HIV.

The organisation works at grassroots level to alleviate poverty in both rural and urban areas. They also build wells and providing training and small loans to businesses and farmers.

LOBBYING AND ADVOCACY

PADI is committed to influence policy makers on change of Policies on Aging and disabilities and economic issues including start of universal pension enacting laws on National aging policy influencing change of policy in Loans provision, mainstreaming aging issues into plans and budget of councils, HIV and Older people.

HEALTH SERVICES SUPPORT

For over 18 years PADI has managed to provide free medical services to over 26,000 Older people and their dependents through community health fund (CHF) in Ruvuma and Njombe.

LEGAL AID SERVICES

For over 4 years PADI has mobilized, recruited over 152 paralegals formed and registered 6 units (NGO) in Njombe region (6 Paralegal unit, 1 from each council) which are responsible to provide legal aid education at the grassroots level where by over 140 communities have been reached with the service.

LOANS AND INCOME GENERATING ACTIVITIES (IGA)

Income Generating Activities (IGA). From 2000 to date PADI has managed to provide Loans to over 1500 Older people (Micro credit service) and over 4500 Older people have benefit from revolving animal scheme In Ruvuma and Njombe region benefiting over 3500 Older people.

AGE CARE EDUCATION

MVC/OVC PROGRAM

Providing sessional, educational and economic support to 4102 MVC whereby 60% of them are under the care of of older people in Namtumbo, Nyasa DC and Mbinga DC &TC District in Ruvuma region.
